Public Safety Notice for Icebreaking – Roddickton & Bide Arm
April 23 and 24, 2025
Please be advised that the ˲ʼʱȷ Icebreaker Earl Grey will be conducting icebreaking operations in the Roddickton & Bide Arm area Wednesday-Thursday, April 23 and 24, 2025. The icebreaker will be leaving an open water track behind it as it transits the area. Please stay a safe distance away from the vessel and its track as cracks can extend for quite some distance from the vessel as it moves.
Request everyone take any action you deem appropriate to notify residents of the area who may be using the ice for any purpose.
“CCG informs the local communities of the inherent risks of icebreaking activities. CCG cannot have absolute control of the behavior of the ice. Depending on various conditions, the ice can be pushed instead of broken and ice can crack or break far away from the location where the icebreaker is working. This can cause risks for the safety of people and property. The public is warned to act accordingly, i.e. refrain from walking on the ice, approaching the icebreaker or its track, remove mobile equipment in advance of icebreaking activities, protect permanently non moveable property, etc.”
