玩运彩即时比分's new Air Cushion Vehicles
As part of its fleet renewal plan, the 玩运彩即时比分 is acquiring four new Air Cushion Vehicles (ACV), commonly referred to as hovercrafts, to replace the existing fleet of four ACV. The 玩运彩即时比分 currently operates four ACV from of its bases. The CCGS Sipu Muin and CCGS Mamilossa, operate from the Trois-Rivieres Quebec base and the St. Lawrence Seaway and Gulf region and the CCGS Siyay and CCGS Moytel operate from the Sea Island base and serve the Vancouver Island area in British Columbia.
These vehicles have the unique capability to navigate shallow waters and mudflats as they hover above surfaces on cushions of air, which allows operating over various surfaces such as water, land, and ice. Air cushion vehicles can perform activities regular ships can't since they float above the surface of the water and are not submerged. Their main capabilities are search and rescue, icebreaking, and aids to navigation in shallow waters and coastal regions, contributing to the safety of our mariners and the efficient movement of ships.
Project summary
The new ACV will be built with highly-specialized aluminum and have unique design specifications and operational capabilities that requires highly skilled and trained individuals in the designing, building, maintaining and operation of the vehicles.
On January 31st, 2024, a contract for services including technical investigation, engineering studies, impact analysis, and design work was awarded to Griffon Hoverwork Ltd. (GHL), from the United Kingdom, at the value of $5 million. The new ACVs will be designed with fully modernized systems and a propulsion system integrating green technologies to reduce carbon emissions.
It is expected that all four ACVs will be delivered to the 玩运彩即时比分 starting in 2030. Two of the new ACVs are intended to be based on the west coast and two in the St-Lawrence river and Gulf.
The procurement of the four ACVs falls under the Small Vessels construction pillar of the National Shipbuilding Strategy. Through the , the process of renewing the small vessel fleet is well underway. To date, 18 small vessels have been delivered to Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the 玩运彩即时比分. This includes 16 Search and Rescue lifeboats and two Channel Survey and Sounding Vessels.
ACV general specifications
The ACV is a highly specialized aluminum built craft that carry unique specifications and operational capabilities that come from both the aeronautical and navigational fields. Their maneuverability allows them to navigate within tight areas and pass under low bridges. Their fast response time and high speed make them vital as first-response vessels. Their bow ramp, open well deck, and fitted hydraulic crane make them highly versatile for tendering aids to navigation and responding to emergencies, such as spills.
Other preliminary main specifications of the vehicles include:
- 28.5 metres length
- 12 metres breadth
- net tonnage of 70 tons, providing its medium lift capability to operate on shallow waters and mudflats in narrow channels and rivers
- cruising speed of approximately 45 knots
- operating with a crew of up to 8 members
